Ploops is the experiments category in this section. It is an idea concieved by me and Chris Deaner, that of initiating a loop-based music project that was more experimental than neccessarily booty-shakin', yet the latter would not be ruled out. After a few years of talkin' about it we finally got it off the ground this year. One of the cool things about it is that we can create sequences and send them directly to each other (via an SSH server that Chris set up) immediately for feedback and adjustments.
Ploops is where I compile all the wayward audio notions I have into 'songs,' more or less; pastiches on timelines. Some of the sounds are lifts from records/cds, some are me or my friends' recording live, and some are the sounds from everyday life, which are easy to harness using my microcassette recorder. I always longed for an excuse to capture and preserve the fractured, windchime-like, electronic bell sound emitted upon arrival of the PATH train, and now I have one. That excuse is called Ploops. |
